This bag was hand-embellished by artisans from the nomadic desert tribe known as "Banjara", in the Northern Indian state of Rajasthan. The Banjara people are believed to have descended from European gypsies thousands of years ago and are sometimes referred to as the "gypsies of India". Banjara embroidery is characterized by vibrant colors and the use of objects such as vintage textiles, coins, pom-poms, cowrie shells, tassels, mirror pieces, intricate beadwork and many others embellishments.
