Ethnic, floral and folk prints, earthy colors, natural fibers, fringe, statement accessories, layered chunky jewelry, maxi-dresses, and loose silhouettes are hallmarks of bohemian style. When it comes to patterns and textures, more is more!

And the bohemian aesthetic never goes out of style. Not only is it always trending, the comfortable, loose shapes that characterize "boho-chic" work for ALL ages and body types. Here are 11 basic musts to achieve the effortless, free-spirited look.

 1) BALANCE: DRESS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

Nothing says boho-chic more than comfy, oversized pieces. But there is a fine line between billowing and sloppy. Too much fabric and you risk looking like you are wearing pajamas. The trick is to balance loose pieces with fitted ones, especially if you are on the petite side. If you prefer to accentuate your torso rather than your legs, pair roomy palazzo pants or maxi skirts with crop tops or fitted vintage tees. For those that prefer to showcase their legs, pair an oversized peasant top with denim shorts or fitted jeans.

2) FLORAL MAXI DRESSES

Maxi dresses are the bohemian babe's wardrobe staple. Wear them with gladiator sandals, boots, or even tennis shoes. For those who feel overwhelmed by big maxis, add a wide belt (or even fringe) or tie one side in a knot to show more leg...No matter how you decide to wear them, billowy, comfortable maxi dresses are your best friend.

3) KIMONOS

Kimonos aren't just for the house anymore. Wear them over shorts, dresses, jeans and boots for an elegant, bohemian look. Short or long, with fringe or waterfall sleeves, they add a touch of sophistication and go with everything.

4) LAYERS + TEXTURE

Boho style is all about the layering while mixing interesting textures. Whether it is long layers of chunky jewelry, a suede or faux fur vest, or a silk kimono, mixing and matching layers of different fabrics is a great way to nail that boho-chic look.

5) RATTAN

Speaking of texture...rattan isn't just for peacock chairs anymore and this abundant and sustainable natural fiber couldn't be any hotter right now! It is especially popular for bags and shoes and it goes with absolutely everything! You can even add a rattan hat, backpack or pair of earrings.

 6) EMBELLISHED STATEMENT PIECES

Embellished purses, jackets, belts, large vintage necklaces, and even boots are the focal point a bohemian outfit.  Tribal embroidery and vintage jewelry is especially on trend and is a great way to give a wow factor to your outfit. Whether its fringe, pom-poms, beadwork, or embroidery, don't be afraid to add a unique statement piece.

7) TURBANS, HEADSCARVES, AND HEAD JEWELRY

Weather its a beautifully tied head scarf, a floral headband, a festival-worthy embellished headpiece or even just a flower crown, your locs deserve love too. You can even make your own headband using a vintage, printed scarf. Make sure to pair it with long, dangling earrings for the ultimate boho touch.

8) INDIAN KAFTANS

Kaftan's are God's gift to women, but if you are on the shorter side and you aren't careful, you can end up looking like you're wearing your grandma's mumu. To give your kaftan and edgier, more modern look, try pairing it with boots and adding a chunky leather belt . They are also great for summer days at the beach or by the pool.

9) TIE-DYE

Tie-dye is back with a vengeance, not that it ever really went out of style. And it's not just for hippies anymore. A brightly colored tie-dyed dress or skirt is very bohemian and fun. Tie-dye is also a great way to give a second life to your old clothing. Grab a DIY set at the craft store and try upcycling something you already have in your closet.

10) BOOTS

Every boho babe knows that you can dress up any outfit instantly with a pair of boots. Whether it's those well-worn cowboy boots, bad-ass motorcycle boots or vintage Doc Martins, boots are a fun way to dress up your outfit while keeping your floral dresses from looking too Little House on the Prairie. And they are very bohemian.

 11) INDIAN ANYTHING!

If there is one country that has inspired bohemian style more than any other, it's India! Indian jewelry, block printed cotton fabrics, soft scarves, and repurposed vintage sarees are all a beloved part of boho fashion.
