This ajrakh kaftan was made using all natural indigo dyes. Ajrakh is the most luxurious and expensive form of Indian fabric printing. It requires 14 different steps. Creating even small amounts of this beautiful, artistic fabric is extremely labor intensive. It must be hand block printed, resist-dyed, dried in the sun, washed and then repeated over and over. The more time these fabrics spend in the sun, the more intense the color will be. The kaftans pictured were dyed using indigo leaves for the blues and madder root for the reds. A true labor of love.
